City Manager



J.D. "Danny" Herring began his career as Quitman's Chief of Police in 1994.  He was appointed as City Manager in 1996.

As City Manager, he directs 10 departments consisting 66 employees and oversees a 12 million dollar budget.  Mr. Herring's accomplishments include assisting in the locating of Crown Healthcare Laundry Service in Quitman, creating QuitmanWireless which provides wireless internet service throughout the City, overseeing the recent downtown streetscape and revitalization grant project, and assisting in the procurement of over 2 million dollars in various grants for the City in recent years.

Born in Jasper County, Georgia, Danny is married to Tina Herring, Director of the Brooks County Development Authority.  He is a father of three: Jennifer, a member of the Army National Gaurd, Lindsay, a graduate of Valdosta State University and wife of Captain Richard Swengros USAF, and Bobby, a student at Valdosta State University who was commissioned into the United States Navy in 2009.  Danny is a graduate of LaSalle University with a degree in criminal justice.  He has completed several courses municipal administration, and serves as an adjunct faculty member of the University of North Florida Institute of Police Management.
